Troy Pair Tops Leaderboard at Southern Amateur Qualifier

TROY, Ala. – Rising Troy seniors Jake Springer and Brantley Scott finished first and second at Thursday's qualifier for the Southern Amateur Championship at the Mountain Brook Club; by finishing in the top four, the pair have qualified for the 118th Southern Amateur Championship.
Springer, who led the Trojans with a 72.70 stroke average this past season, shot 6-under on the par-71 course to claim individual medalist honors at the qualifier. He made the turn 2-under after four birdies and a pair of bogeys on the front nine before blitzing the back nine with five birdies.
Scott, who earned an individual berth in the 2023 NCAA Regionals, finished a shot back in a tie for second place after shooting 33 on both sides of the course to finish 4-under. He picked up four birdies on both the front and back nine and finished with birdies on two of his final three holes to avoid a playoff for the final qualifying spot.
The winner of the 118th Southern Amateur Championship, which will be held July 17-20 at the Idle Hour Country Club, earns an exemption into the 124th U.S. Amateur Championship in August and a five-year exemption into the Southern Amateur Championship.
