Christyon Eugene Named to The Almanac Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team

TROY, Ala. – The Almanac announced Wednesday morning that senior guard Christyon Eugene was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team.
"I am very excited to see that The Almanac has recognized what we have known for a long time: Christyon 'Spudd' Eugene is a big-time player that is one of the best in the Sun Belt Conference," head coach Scott Cross said. "Eugene was extremely efficient last year and can score at all three levels. He is a nightmare for opposing defenders. Teams will have to game plan for him. I have no doubt that Spudd is going to be even better this season."
Eugene was a cornerstone of the 2022-23 Troy men's basketball team, averaging 12 points per game while shooting 45.6 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from three-point range. He grabbed 3.2 rebounds and dished out 2.3 assists per game.
He started 17-of-32 games last season and scored a season-high 26 points against James Madison in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Tournament. At 6-3, Eugene finished the season ranked 23rd in the Sun Belt in scoring and eighth in three-point percentage.
Eugene and the rest of the Troy men's basketball team open its season on Monday, Nov. 6, when they take on Fort Lauderdale at Trojan Arena.
