TROY, Ala. – After seizing second place in the men's high jump at the Crimson Tide Invitational, freshman Jaggerd Moore received Sun Belt Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday morning.
"Jaggerd is a freshman that is staying very consistent," director of track & field/cross country Marc Davis said. "He is on the NCAA list and has progressed very nicely. I am proud of his accomplishment this week. The sky is the limit for this kid."
A native of Birmingham, Ala., Moore faced 16 competitors in the high jump event. Standing 6-0, Moore made quick work on the first three jumps of 1.95, 2.00 and 2.05, which secured him a podium finish. His competition for the gold remained two Auburn Tigers.
Facing the 2.10m jump, the freshman failed his first two attempts. And with only one shot remaining, Moore found an extra gear, clearing the bar to become one of two athletes to surpass the mark. The 2.10m mark is where he stood after another round of jumps for the 2.14m to secure his third podium finish of 2023 - finished second at the Tiger Track Classic (2.10m) and first at the Weems Baskin Invitational (2.03m).
The 2.10m mark tied his personal record from both indoor and outdoor to secure his position of fourth in the Sun Belt rankings for the event and 26th on the NCAA East Preliminary.
With the award, Moore becomes the second Trojan in three weeks to claim the men's field athlete of the week award alongside sophomore Javon Osbourne.
Moore joins his fellow Trojans in the "City of Brotherly Love" for the 127th annual Penn Relays from Thursday to Saturday.
