Troy to Honor 1987 and 2007 Championship Teams as Part of Football Letterwinners Day Oct. 8

TROY, Ala. – Troy Athletics welcomes back all former football letterwinners to the Trojans' game against Southern Miss on October 8 in The Vet. As part of the celebration, Troy will honor the 1987 National Championship team and the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Championship team.

Returning letterwinners can receive up to four complimentary tickets to the game and are invited to an exclusive pregame tailgate in Tailgate Terrace. Additionally, all football letterwinners will be invited down to the field to be recognized during the game.

Troy will wear throwback helmets in the game to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the 1987 NCAA Division II National Championship squad. Under the direction of head coach Rick Rhoades, the Trojans won their final 12 games of the season, including a 31-17 victory over Portland State to win the title. Troy outscored its three opponents 107-41 in the playoffs.Â

The 2007 Trojans defeated Oklahoma State, put a scare into Georgia and rolled off Troy's second consecutive Sun Belt title under legendary head coach Larry Blakeney

Fans who purchased their 2022 season tickets before the priority deadline will be able to pick up their 1987 commemorative mini helmet from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the game; they will be available for pick up beginning Monday, Sept. 19, at the ticket office during business hours.
