Troy Set for Exhibition Against Kennesaw State

TROY, Ala. – Troy is set to kick off its 2021 campaign as the Trojans host an exhibition match Saturday at Trojan Arena against Kennesaw State at 1 p.m. A part of One Troy Weekend, admission is free, and the first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free Conecuh Sausage Dog, and all fans can take home a 2021 schedule poster.
"We are excited to test ourselves against a good Kennesaw State team," head coach Josh Lauer said. "I know that all our players are looking forward to playing a new opponent after the last few weeks of preseason camp. We will be trying different lineup combinations and really focusing on letting our team play and build confidence as we are heading into our opener next week."
This year, the Trojans boast a veteran and talented squad with 14 players returning, including the 2020 first-team All-Sun Belt and 2021 preseason All-Sun Belt selection, setter Amara Anderson. In addition, outside hitter Cheyenne Hayes returns, a 2020 second-team All-Sun Belt, Sun-Belt All-Tournament team, and 2021 preseason All Sun-Belt selection.
Also returning is Lacey Jeffcoat, who led the team in digs and digs per set for the third straight year with 374 on the season averaging 4.85 per set, which was good enough for sixth in the Sun Belt Conference.
Caitlin Cooper led the team in solo blocks with 17 and 60 block assists which were fourth-best in the Sun Belt last year. Leading the team in total blocks per set average the past two seasons also returns.
The Trojans welcome three newcomers to this year's roster, with three freshmen on the roster. Caroline Darracott is a defensive specialist, Janelle Stuempfig lines up as a setter, and Sophia Sparks is an outside hitter to round out the incoming class.

Know Your Opponent: The Trojans have met Kennesaw State a total of six times, holding a 2-4 record against the Owls with victories coming in 2007 and 2011. In the last meeting between the two teams, Troy fell in five sets. Cheyenne Hayes finished with 17 kills, Amara Anderson had a double-double with 40 assists and 12 digs, while Halston Hillier posted seven kills and had a hitting percentage of over .300 in the match.
