Women's Tennis Falls in nail-biter at App State

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team fell in its opening match of the weekend. The Trojans moved to 6-8, 2-4 SBC after falling to App State in Boone, N.C. by a score of 4-3.
The day got started on the right foot for the Trojans, earning a quick 6-1 victory on court three by the duo of Matea Mihaljevic and Tijana Svitlica. After App State (5-10, 4-4 SBC) evened this up with its victoru on court one, Troy battled to take the doubles points with a win on court two by the pair of Andrea Widing and Michelle Ncube.
The Trojans lead didn't last long as App State was able to open singles play with back-to-back wins on courts two and three to take a 2-1 advantage in the match. Troy didn't stay behind for long with its own pair of wins. The Trojans tied the match at two when Ncube earned a straigh-sets win on court four before the Trojans to a 3-2 lead with a win on court six from Anastasiia Khrustaleva. The Trojans win on court six would be its last of the day as App State took home the match with wins on courts one and five to close it out.
Troy will be back on the courts tomorrow morning when they travel to Conway, S.C. to take on the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina. The match is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. (CT).
