TROY, Ala. -- Omar Haugabook completed 33-of-48 passes and threw for a career-high 371 yards and one touchdown as the Trojans defeated Oklahoma State, 41-23, on Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at Movie Gallery Veteran's Stadium.
Haugabook's 371 yards were the third most during coach Larry Blakeney's tenure. He also ran for two touchdowns and 49 yards. Troy's Josh Maxwell forced a Keith Toston fumble on the first carry of the game that was recovered by Boris Lee. 57 seconds later, Haugabook connected with Kennard Burton for a 5-yard touchdown pass giving the Trojans an early 7-0 lead. Burton recorded five catches for 77 yards with his longest going for 43 yards. 11 different receivers caught a pass for the Trojans.Â
Oklahoma State would score their first points of the game with 7:35 remaining in the first quarter when Jason Ricks connected on a 20-yard field goal, making the score 7-3. On the ensuing drive, Haugabook rushed up the middle for a six yard touchdown to cap a 13-play, 79-yard drive. Following a bad snap on the extra point that resulted in a downed ball, Troy took a 13-3 advantage with 2:28 remaining in the first quarter.
Following a Troy punt and an Oklahoma State three-and-out, Leodis McKelvin took a punt return 74 yards for a touchdown to give Troy a 20-3 lead. The return was McKelvin's fifth career punt return touchdown and the longest in Troy history. McKelvin had five punt returns for 136 yards.
Toston's second fumble of the night resulted in a second fumble recovery for Lee as the Trojans forced their second turnover of the night. The Cowboy fumble was forced by Tavares Williams. Lee also intercepted a pass and recorded four tackles. He returned the interception 32 yards. McKelvin led the Trojans with seven tackles. Romanique Lewis had Troy's lone sack.
On a 4th-and-9 play, punter Adrian Vera attempted to run for a first down, but ended up one yard short. Playing with a short field, Oklahoma State was able to score their first touchdown of the night on a four-yard touchdown pass from Zac Robinson to Brandon Pettigrew concluding a five-play, 26 yard drive. Robinson finished the game 18-of-37 for 191 yards and one touchdown. He threw two interceptions. Robinson also rushed 9 times for 61 yards.
Following the Oklahoma State touchdown, Troy answered back with a nine-play, 80 yard drive, culminating with a double-pass that saw Haugabook throw to wide receiver Gary Banks in the flat who then found Mykeal Terry for a 17-yard touchdown. The touchdown pass was the first of Banks' career. He finished the game with five receptions for 66 yards.
The Trojans took the opening kickoff of the second half and marched 80 yards on 13 plays capped off by a two-yard touchdown run by Haugabook. With 13 seconds remaining in the second half, Sean Dawkins charged into the end zone for a touchdown, his first since 2005, to make the score 41-10. Kenny Cattouse was the leading rusher for Troy with 12 carries for 62 yards. He also caught five passes for 39 yards. Dujuan Harris carried the ball 16 times for 45 yards.
The Cowboys would score only their second touchdown of the game with 10:35 remaining in the fourth quarter as Julius Crosslin plunged into the end zone, but a subsequent blocked extra point by Marcus Pittman left the score at 41-16. Oklahoma State would score again with 4:31 remaining in the contest on a Crosslin two-yard touchdown run ending an 11-play, 91 yard drive.
