Naquita Williams Selected to Compete for Canada

TROY, Ala. – Troy track & field sophomore Naquita Williams has been selected to represent Canada at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics U18/U23 Championships held in Querétaro, Mexico, from July 5-7 as announced by Athletics Canada on Thursday.Â

There was a total of 50 athletes chosen to compete between both the U18 and U23 teams with Williams securing a spot on the U23 team and will compete in the women's hammer throw.Â
Â
This edition marks the 10th anniversary of the NACAC U23 Championships, which has featured Canadian athletes since the inaugural event in 2000 and will be the first for the U18 age category.

Williams' 2019 outdoor season was highlighted by a third-place finish at the Florida Relays in the hammer throw, launching a personal best mark of 58.25 meters. Her mark in the event is the second-farthest throw in school history.Â

At the Sun Belt Conference Championship, Williams just missed a podium finish as she landed in fourth place with a throw of 53.97 meters.Â
