Troy Travels to Orlando for Diamond 9 Citrus Classic

TROY, Alabama – The Troy softball team travels to Orlando, Fla., to play in the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic. Troy opens the tournament on Friday at 10 a.m. (CT) against Stetson and will go on to play Missouri, UMass, LIU Brooklyn and Saint Joseph's throughout the weekend.
Last weekend, Troy opened the season with a pair of wins over Maryland out of the Big Ten plus a win over Murray State. Troy's lone losses in the Trojan Classic came at the hands of No. 9 Alabama.
Freshman Leanna Johnson recorded 19 strikeouts in 16.1 innings of work and a one-hitter Saturday night against Murray State in her first collegiate action to leda the Trojan pitching staff. Logan Calhoun led the offensive attack batting .417 and recording five hits and two RBIs. Bailey Taylor came into pinch hit three time over the weekend and went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
Know Your Foes
* Stetson comes into the weekend after dropping its first two games of the season to Indiana State, 6-4 and 10-2. Through the first two games, Jamie Tino leads the Hatters with a 2.80 ERA and two strikeouts while Ashly Smith leads the offensive efforts batting .429 with two RBIs. Stetson leads the series with Troy 11-6.
* Missouri enters the weekend 3-2 with a win over No. 12 Arizona State. Madi Norman has spent most of the time in the circle for the Tigers having pitched 20 innings and recording 11 strikeouts. Missouri leads the series 1-0 after Troy fell to the Tigers 4-0 in 2012.
* After going 35-14 last season, UMass gears up for their first games of the 2019 season this weekend. This will be Troy's first meeting with UMass.
* LIU Brooklyn comes into the weekend 2-3 after losing to Ball State and splitting games with Kent State and Florida Gulf Coast. Camryn Lyman leads the Blackbirds offense batting .333 with an RBI. This will be Troy's first meeting with LIU Brooklyn.
* Saint Joseph's gears up for their first games of the 2019 season after going 24-25 last season. Troy leads the series 2-1 after last meeting in 2007 where Troy fell 5-4.
