Trojans Travel to Birmingham for Midweek Showdown

TROY, Alabama- Following a trip out west to Arizona, the Troy softball team (5-3) will continue its road swing, making the short trip to Birmingham on Wednesday to take on Samford (1-9) at 5 p.m.

The Trojans went 2-2 at the Hillenbrand Invitational, hosted by Arizona, defeating Bryant and Montana, but falling to Colorado State and the first game against Montana. The highlight of the weekend was junior Stephanie Snyder's grand slam to lift Troy over Bryant in the second game of the tournament.

Sophomores Logan Calhoun and Katie Webb have been the offensive workhorses so far this season for Troy. Webb leads the team with a .393 at the plate, with team-highs 11 hits and eight RBI. Calhoun is just below Webb with a .391 batting average with nine hits and eight runs.

Juniors Claire Graves and Peyton Glover, as well as freshman Annie Willis, have held it down in the circle with a team ERA of 1.65 and 45 strikeouts through 55.0 innings pitched.

Samford enters the matchup after a tough start to the season, winning only one of its first 10 games. The Bulldogs defeated Evansville 11-5, but fell to No. 22 Louisiana, Illinois –Chicago, Eastern Illinois, Jacksonville State, Winthrop and No. 17 Georgia. Madison Couch leads Samford batting .296 with eight hits and eight RBI.
