TROY, Ala. – Troy head baseball coach Mark Smartt announced eight players who signed with the Trojans in this week's early signing period. Each of them will enroll at Troy University in August 2019.
Â
The signing class includes five high school seniors and three junior college transfers who all hail from different parts of the southeast.Â
Â
"I am confident our staff has identified the best group of players that gives our program the greatest chance to succeed. Recruiting is a year-round effort and dictates future success," Smartt said.
Â
Kyle Mock, infielder from Bishop Moore High School, William Sullivan, infielder from Dr. Phillips High School, Matt Snell, pitcher/infielder from GW Long HS and Noah Janney, pitcher from Windermere High School are the four high school signees that will enroll in August 2019.
Â
"It's a talented group of athletes that will have an opportunity to play a major role throughout their careers," Smartt said. "Mock will primarily play infield, but he is athletic enough to play the outfield and swing the bat. Sullivan is a talented hitter with a chance to factor in early in his career."
Â
The Troy coaching staff also added a couple of high school arms – Matt Snell, from GW Long High School in Skipperville, Ala. and Noah Janney from Windermere High School in Central Florida. Smartt believes Snell and Janney offer characteristics required to have success at the college level. "Both of them offer pitch ability and arm strength which will be two key factors in their success here at TROY."
Â
Easton Kirk, catcher/infielder from Wallace Hanceville Community College, DJ Wilkinson, pitcher from Pensacola State College and Jesse Hall, infielder from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College are the three transfers that will begin their junior seasons in 2019.
Â
All three junior college players should provide an impact quickly. Easton Kirk will complete his sophomore season at Wallace Hanceville before joining the Trojans next season. Kirk is a former junior college teammate of Troy junior outfielder Dalton Sinquefield. Also joining the team are DJ Wilkinson from Monticello, Fla., and Jesse Hall from Tallahassee, Fla.
Â
"All three junior college transfers are players we targeted early in the process and fully believe they will impact our team immediately as juniors in 2020," Smartt said.
Â
Smartt concluded by saying, "We respect the commitment that each of these players have made to TROY and look forward to the impact they will make on TROY baseball."
