TROY, Alabama- The Troy softball team is set to begin the 2017 fall season on the road at the Tera Ross Memorial Tournament hosted by Jacksonville State. The Trojans will compete in a triple header on September 30 against Wallace State at 1:30, Bevill State at 3:15 and Talladega at 5:00 in Oxford, Ala.
Â
"The fall is always an important time of year for our program," head coach Beth Mullins said. "Every team is different and the fall gives us a chance to see the things we are good at and to also see the areas we need to improve upon. This group has been working hard over the past few weeks and we are excited to finally get out on the field and compete as a team."
Â
Troy has a solid group of veterans returning to the team, led by seniors Erica Davis, Carli Kayler and Cassidy McDilda. Another key returner is junior outfielder Stephanie Snyder who posted the highest batting average (.277) of all returning players, and was one of just three Trojans to start every game last season.
Â
Joining the squad this year are nine newcomers to give the Trojans some depth. Kynsley Rae Blasingame and high-school standout Annie Willis will join Claire Graves and Peyton Glover in the circle this season.
Â
The Trojans finished the 2017 spring season with a 20-34 record earning key wins against non-conference opponents NC State, then No. 19 Pittsburgh, Illinois State and Southern Miss. Troy went 8-19 in Sun Belt play, but just missed the opportunity to compete at the Sun Belt Tournament.
Â
The Trojans will return home to wrap-up fall play as they host Northwest Florida State at 1 and 3 p.m. on October 7 and Gulf Coast State and AUM at 4 and 6 p.m. on October 13 at the Troy Softball Complex.
