"I Will Forever Bleed Cardinal, Black and Silver," Becca Hartley Says Thank You

Bottom of the seventh, two outs, down by one, runners on second and third, winner advances, loser goes home. Most would call this a high-pressure situation that they would not want any part of. However, these are the situations that I learned how to thrive in. Softball taught me how to embrace pressure, failure, and the differences of others.
Â
Softball was not always my best friend. There were times I wanted to quit and times I wondered why I played a sport that wrapped me up in failure more times than not. But as I matured on and off the field, the game began to show me just what it wanted me to learn over the last 18 years. Life is simply like a pitch. The first pitch will not be exactly the same as the second, and sometimes I will have to change my approach to be successful. Just like the next pitch in an at bat, I wont know what situation in life I am about to face. The reaction is what matters. If it's not the right pitch or best situation, I can either foul it off and get ready for the next or give up and let it determine the rest of the game.
Â
Being a part of a team is something I will never forget and hopefully continue to experience. Learning how to get along with people who come from completely different backgrounds, families and beliefs is quite an art. I did not get to choose my teammates, but I did choose to love them.
Â
I am forever thankful to the City of Troy and Troy University. You accepted me in this town and molded me into a Trojan. My family, teachers, coaches, mentors and friends have impacted my life in ways that I will never be able to express on paper. You are the reason I give back.
Â
Troy is home and will always be home. I will forever bleed cardinal, black and silver.
