INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The NCAA announced Wednesday that the Troy women's golf and women's cross country programs received Public Recognition Awards as part of the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) program for the 2015-16 academic year.
Both programs earned perfect 1,000 APR scores and are ranked in the top 10 percent of their NCAA Division I peers. Troy's programs are two of 1,090 teams nationally that earned perfect scores APR scores for the 2015-16 academic year. This marks the third year in a row that women's golf has received the NCAA Public Recognition Award and the first year that cross country has been recognized.
"We measure successes within the Troy Athletics Department both on the field and in the classroom," Athletics Director Jeremy McClain said. "We work to win championships between the lines and we strive to see each of our student-athletes earn their degree during their tenure at Troy. We are all so very proud of the efforts by both the women's golf and women's cross country programs to be recognized by the NCAA for their academic efforts as they sit among the best of the best in their peer groups for their work in the classroom."
A total of 1,203 teams are being recognized for academic performance by the NCAA, including 746 women's teams and 457 men's teams or co-ed teams, an increase of 132 teams from a year ago.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.
APR scores for all Division I teams will be released May 10. All teams must maintain an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
