Softball Continues Conference Play at Coastal Carolina

TROY, Alabama – The Troy softball team (15-16, 3-3 SBC) will continue conference play as it travels east to Conway, S.C., to face Coastal Carolina for a three game weekend series. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 12 and 2 p.m., and Sunday's finale will begin at 11 a.m. CT.

Troy narrowly fell 3-2 in an in-state match up with UAB on Tuesday night at the Troy Softball Complex. The Trojans held on to a 2-0 lead until the top of the seventh when the Blazers scored three timely runs that Troy could not find an answer to.

Senior Rachel Rigney Brown threw six strong innings for Troy, but after getting in a jam with the Blazers' bats starting to heat up, Peyton Glover came in as relief.

At the plate, Troy is led by Becca Hartley who has a .351 batting average. She leads the team with 10 home runs, 26 RBIs, 29 runs and a slugging percentage of .755. Stephanie Snyder has hit three home runs this season, two were walk-offs including her home run to win the final game and series over Georgia State.

Coastal Carolina (21-7, 1-4 SBC) is in its first year in the Sun Belt. The Chanticleers were previously members of the Big South Conference. Coastal is coming off of a conference series loss to South Alabama, who won two of the three games. Taty Forbes leads the Chanticleers with a .468 batting average and has posted 37 hits in 79 at-bats.

NOTEWORTHY
• Hartley is looking to tie her career-high 11 home runs that she set last season. She currently has 10 this year. She is tied for eighth in the nation in the home run category, and fourth all-time in the Troy record books.
• Hartley is the current Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for her performance against Southern Miss and Georgia State.
• Troy leads the Sun Belt Conference with 42 doubles. Nine different players have hit multiple doubles on the year Erica Davis leads the team with seven.
• Troy is third in the conference in runs scored (142) and hits (222)
• Freshman Katie Webb looks to extend her seven game hitting streak, a career and team high.
