Women’s Tennis Completes Day One of FSU Showdown

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – The Troy women's tennis team wrapped up day one at the FSU All-Conference Showdown on Friday.
Seniors Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky got the tournament off to a hot start with two back-to-back doubles wins. The pair defeated a a duo from West Virginia 8-7 to advance to the semifinals where they picked up another 8-7 win over a dup from UCF. They will take on a team from host school, Florida State tomorrow in the championship.
Efriliya Herlina and Hannah Seizer fell in their first doubles match of the day, but picked up an 8-2 win over West Virginia to earn a spot in the consolation finals tomorrow against a pair from Wisconsin.
Wrapping up doubles competition on Friday were freshmen Matea Mihaljevic and Maria Casas Blas. The duo defeated West Virginia 8-6, but fell to ETSU in the semifinals. They will face MTSU tomorrow for third place.
On the singles courts, Ohta earned a hard-fought 6-1, 7-6 (2) win over Silvia Bordes of UCF and will face an opponent from FSU for the Garnet Draw title.
Seizer dropped her singles match in three sets after winning the first set 6-0. She will face Danielle Burich of Iowa tomorrow for a spot in the consolation final. Herlina also fell in a 7-6, 7-5 match and will play her consolation semifinal match tomorrow, as will Karaky.
Casas Blas earned a first-round bye, but fell in three sets 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. She earned a place in the consolation finals and will face Hannah Ferrett of Furman tomorrow.
Matea Mihaljevic closed out Friday play with a first-round bye, and she eventually fell to Danielle Bauers of Iowa in three sets. She will face an opponent from Wisconsin in the consolation semifinals tomorrow.
