Bennett, Brown and Denison Earn All-Sun Belt Honors

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Senior starting pitcher Grant Bennett tabbed All-Sun Belt First Team honors, while senior starting pitcher Lucas Brown and junior outfielder Joey Denison were named All-Sun Belt Second Team, the Sun Belt Conference announced on Tuesday night.

Bennett, Troy's lone first teamer, has the second best ERA in the conference with a 2.15, which is tops on Troy's team and currently ranks in the top 10 in single-season ERA at Troy. He has eight wins this season, which has propelled him into the top 10 in career wins at Troy. He has struck out 74 in 96.1 innings and has only allowed 18 walks this season. In conference play he has a 1.92 ERA and a 6-1 record with 49 strikeouts.

Brown has been named All-Sun Belt Second Team for the second straight season. His 2.54 ERA ranks him fifth in the Sun Belt Conference. He has pitched 95.2 innings and struck out 69 batters. The Acworth, Ga., native has posted an 8-4 record including one complete game. Opponents are batting .234 when facing Brown, including Sun Belt opponents who are only batting .230 against him.

Newcomer, Denison, leads the team in doubles with 14, home runs with six, RBIs with 34 and is tied for the team lead in batting average at .317. The hometown product has 20 multi-hit games this year and nine multi-RBI games, both lead the team. He has a .327 average in Sun Belt play and has 10 of his 14 doubles when facing conference opponents.

The fourth-seeded Trojans will face fifth-seeded Texas State on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Bobcat Ballpark.
