Stigarll Shines, Personal Records Fall at First Day of Sun Belt Conference Track and Field Outdoor Championships

GULF SHORES, Alabama – The Troy Trojan track and field team wrapped up its first day of competition on Friday at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.

In multi-events on the women's side, Aleeah Stigarll and Riley Schwietz kicked off the day competing in the heptathlon.

Stigarll clocked in a new personal record in the 200-meter dash, and a second place finish, with a time of 25.31 seconds. The Mansfield, Texas, native also set a new personal record with a throw of 11.00 meters in the shot put. The sophomore placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.98 seconds. In the high jump, she narrowly missed a personal record with a 1.58 leap. Her events totaled 3,010 points on the day, which is good for second place overall.

Schwietz's best finish of the day came in the 100-meter hurdles, as she placed third, clocking in at 14.92 seconds, just ahead of Stigarll. The sophomore hailing from Frisco, Texas, earned 2,572 points on the day and sits in seventh place heading into tomorrow's events.

Meanwhile on the men's side, Douglas Dyer competed in the decathlon. Dyer earned 3,273 points on the day, his best finish stemming from the 400-meter dash, where he placed fourth with a time of 51.05 seconds. Dyer's next best finish was in the 100-meter dash, as he placed sixth at 11.57 seconds. In the third event of the day, the senior placed sixth in the shot put as he set a new personal record, with an 11.47-meter throw. In the long and high jump, the Frostproof, Fla., native placed seventh leaping 5.91 and 1.80 meters, respectively.

In individual events, Demetrius Elia all competed in the hammer throw. Elia placed fifth in the event with a 58.69-meter throw, while

In the men's javelin, Samuel Johnson threw 55.74 meters, respectively. Johnson's 55.74-meter throw set a new personal record by over four meters, just missing the event finals.

The Trojans pick back up competition tomorrow starting with the decathlon at 10 a.m. Field events are slated to begin at 2 p.m. with the women's long jump, finishing with the men's long jump at 5 p.m. The running events will begin promptly at 5 p.m. with the women's 100-meter hurdles, and concludes with the men's 3k steeple at 8:25.
