SKILLMAN, New Jersey – The Troy men's tennis team has entered this week's ITA National Team Rankings as the 62nd-ranked team, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Tuesday.
Â
Troy (11-5) has won six of its last seven matches with the lone loss coming in a 4-3 decision to No. 20 Tennessee. In their most recent match, the Trojans defeated then No. 47 South Alabama on the road, 4-3.
Â
Troy is 4-0 in Sun Belt matches this season and is one of three Sun Belt teams ranked in the ITA's top 75. South Alabama, after the loss to Troy, has fallen to No. 57 while UL Lafayette checks in at No. 73.
Â
"I'm very excited for the guys," Troy head coach Scott Kidd said.  "It's a huge accomplishment for the program to return back to the rankings. All of their hard work has paid off. This is a young and fearless team and I know they won't settle for 62. They'll work harder to move up in the rankings. Our goal, of course, is to continue working hard to improve."
Â
The national ranking is the first for Troy in over four years as the Trojans last appeared in the rankings at No. 70 on Feb. 14, 2011. The previous season, 2009-10, Troy finished as the No. 58 team in the nation after winning the program's only Sun Belt Conference Championship.
Â
The Trojans return to the court on Friday  when they travel to take on Furman at 3 p.m. CT.
