KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Fátima Fernández Cano fired a 1-under par 71 and Troy maintained its second-place standing on the leaderboard on day two of the Kiawah Island Spring Classic on Monday. The Trojans shot a 300 as a team and will be one of 20 teams playing for the tournament championship on Tuesday.
The 40 teams were split over two courses Monday at the Kiawah Island Golf Club with Troy playing the Oak Point Course; the top 20 teams will play Osprey Point for the title.
Cano sank a pair of birdies on both the front and back nine as she moved up 11 spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for fifth place. The 1-under was Cano's second round under par on the season and first in 11 rounds.
The Trojans opened on the back nine and Taylor McGraw dropped in a pair of birdies before making the turn at 1-under. She finished her round at 2-over for the day and moved up 24 spots into a tie for 27th place.
Becca Horner orchestrated an impressive turnaround on the course as she shaved 15 strokes off her opening round tally to card a 3-over 75 on Monday. Horner, who is tied for 146th overall, picked up a birdie during her round.
Langley Vannoy, who is tied with McGraw for 27th, and Sydney Conrad (T44th) both finished their days with an 8-over 80. Vannoy sank three birdies in her round and has nine for the tournament, which is tied for the most in the field.
Host Charleston Southern will carry a 10-stroke lead over Troy into Tuesday's final, while North Florida is three shots back of Troy in third. South Alabama, the only other Sun Belt school in the field, is 45 shots back of Troy.
Troy will take the course with the College of Charleston and North Florida in a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m.
