Troy’s Huynh, Ndayishimye Sweep Sun Belt Tennis Awards

NEW ORLEANS – Troy women's tennis junior Trang Huynh and men's tennis sophomore Hassan Ndayishimye swept the Sun Belt's Female and Male Tennis Athlete of the Week awards, the league office announced on Thursday.
The award is the second of the season for Huynh and the fifth of her career. For Ndayishimye, the award is his third of the season. The Troy men's and women's tennis programs have now combined to win six of this season's 13 Sun Belt weekly awards, double the amount of any other university.
Huynh posted a perfect 3-0 week in both singles and doubles, playing in the No. 1 spot in both, for the Trojans, who went 2-1 as a team. In singles play, the junior started her week with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Jacobea Junger of UTSA as Troy beat the Roadrunners, 4-3.
Huynh then dropped just three combined games in two matches as Troy traveled to Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., to take on ULM and Mercer. She won 6-1, 6-1 against Amy Olivier of ULM and 6-1, 6-0 over Xandra Fougner of Mercer.
In doubles play, Huynh and Anja Cosovic swept their three matches, winning by scored of 6-4, 8-2 and 8-2, respectively. In doubles play, Huynh and Cosovic are now 10-1 on the season while Huynh is 9-3 in singles play.
Ndayishimye posted a perfect week for the Trojans as he went 2-0 in both singles and doubles for the Trojans who beat Furman and Emory, the fifth-ranked NCAA Division III team.
The sophomore played at No. 2 singles against Furman and beat Matt Browne, 6-4, 7-6 (3) as the Trojans picked up a 4-3 road win. He then moved up to No. 1 at Emory and cruised past Alex Ruderman, the fourth-ranked Division III player in the nation, 6-1, 6-1.
Ndayishimye and Gabriel Dias played both of their matches at No. 1 doubles. They beat Furman 6-4 before beating Emory's Ruderman and Ian Wagner, the fifth-ranked Division III doubles team, 8-4.
The Trojans moved up to No. 58 in the ITA National Team Rankings after the two wins, making them the highest ranked Sun Belt team. Ndayishimye is now 13-4 on the season in singles play and 10-3 in doubles.
Huynh and the Troy women will not return to the court until Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22 when they travel to Mobile, Ala., to take on Georgia Soouthern and South Alabama, respectively.
Ndayishimye and the Troy men return to the court on Sunday when they travel to Montgomery, Ala., to take on Kennesaw State and Alabama State at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.
