Men's Golf Continues Busy Month on Friday

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Troy men's golf team will continue its busy spring season on Friday when it opens play at the 44th Annual Furman Intercollegiate – the fourth tournament for the Trojans in the month of March.
The 44th installment of the event will take place at the Furman University Golf Club, and will feature 54 holes of play at the par-72, 6,994-yard venue hosted by Furman University.
Tolver Dozier, Jake Tucker and Phillip Brennan enter the weekend nearly neck-and-neck in stroke average, as Tucker holds the slight advantage over his two teammates with a 75.52 mark.
Dozier comes off a tie for 17th at the Seminole Intercollegiate and sits 35th statistically in the Sun Belt Conference.
Brennan, who has come on strong as one of Troy's top golfers this spring, has only competed in four events, but enters with a 75.58 stroke average and most recently comes off his season-best finish and low-round, a tie for 17th and round of 70.
Kyle Thommesen and Wil Clowdus have both competed as Troy's other two five-team members this spring, as Thommesen enters with a 78.72 stroke average, while Clowdus sits at a 79.29.
Troy finished last year's Furman Intercollegiate tied for fifth in the 21-team field as Clemson set a new tournament record with a 26-under par performance to win the team title.
This year's 21-team field includes the host Paladins, Akron, Charleston Southern, No. 44 Chattanooga, Dartmouth, No. 69 East Tennessee State, Francis Marion, Furman, Gardner-Webb, No. 85 Georgia State, No. 93 Iowa State, Marshall, No. 17 North Florida, Presbyterian, No. 86 Purdue, Samford, Temple, Troy, No. 51 Virginia Tech, Western Carolina, No. 77 Winthrop, and Wofford.
No. 49 Jonathan Grey (Georgia State), No. 22 Scott Fernandez (Iowa State), No. 11 Kevin Phelan (North Florida), and No. 31 MJ Maguire (North Florida) lead the field of individuals according to Golfweek's top-50 rankings.
Round one of the 54-hole tournament is slated for an 8:15 start with live scoring through www.GolfStat.com every three holes.
