Match Suspended, Will Be Rescheduled

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team started Saturday's match against Florida A&M in great shape, but the rain started to fall in Troy and the match was postponed.
Troy (1-6) won the doubles point against a tough Florida A&M (3-7) squad, but the courts were unable to be dried. The match will be rescheduled, but since it will not be within a 24-hour period, the score will not carry over.
“It's too bad we couldn't finish the match,” Troy head coach Eric Hayes said. “We finally came out with the intensity I have been waiting for and we had the confidence to win the doubles point.
“Florida A&M is a very good team that barely lost to South Alabama, 4-3. Today was a step in the right direction for us.”
Troy won the doubles point, but a tiebreaker loss at second doubles left them just short of a sweep.
At first doubles, Mansingh Athare and Sami Ghorbel won, 8-5, while at third doubles Anas Rouchdi and Patrick Eichler cruised, 8-2. Tommy Cundy and Andre Stabile nearly made it a sweep, but lost at second doubles in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (8-6).
Troy won the first set in two of the singles matches and was tied in the first set in another when the rain began to fall.
After trying to dry the courts, the match was suspended well after nightfall at 8 p.m. A make-up date has yet to be scheduled. Complete scored are listed below.
The Trojans return to the court next Saturday when they host Nicholls State at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
