TROY, Ala. – Troy softball assistant coach Sharon O'Mara, who has been with the program since 2008, has been promoted to Associate Head Coach.
“I would like to thank Director of Athletics John Hartwell and Coach (Melanie) Davis for this honor,” O'Mara said. “Troy University has given me the opportunity to coach this great sport and our student-athletes. I look forward to continued success for our softball program.”
A 2012 graduate of the NCAA's Women's Coaches Academy, O'Mara has served as recruiting coordinator and has worked primarily with the Troy pitching staff. Under her tutelage, O'Mara coached All-Sun Belt performer Ashley Rainey in 2012 and 2008 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Ashlyn Williams.
“Coach O'Mara has done a fabulous job in all areas of our program for the last 4 ½ years,” head coach Melanie Davis said. “Her knowledge, worth ethic and commitment to the student-athlete is second to none. These qualities and countless others make her well deserving of this promotion.”
This season, Troy's pitching staff has a 2.95 ERA through nine games, while opponents are batting just .206 against the Trojans.
