Troy Volleyball Opens Practice

TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team opened preparations for the 2012 season on Monday as the Trojan's 19-member squad reported to campus.

The Trojans, who are holding two practices a day until classes begin on Wednesday, open their season on Friday, August 24 against Georgia State at the Benson Hospitality Bulldog Invitational hosted by Georgia.

The Trojans open their home schedule on Tuesday, August 28 when Auburn visits Troy for a 7:00 p.m. match-up inside Sartain Hall.

Troy returns eight letterwinners from a season ago while only losing three. Among the returners is a group of four seniors that includes three-year starter Devin Von Pingel up front. Anchoring the Trojan defense is 2011 All-Sun Belt selection Courtney Cohen who set the Troy school record with 525 digs in her sophomore season in 2011.

Head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick and his squad welcome the addition on 10 newcomers in 2012, including Division I transfers Alicia Dukes (Jacksonville State) and Brianna Bartlett (Youngstown State).
