Trojans Head to the Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championships

TROY, Ala. – The Troy track & field team will be heading to Lafayette, La. to compete in the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning May 11 until May 13.
“We look forward to return to Lafayette,” head coach Jill Lancaster said. “We had success here in early season and look forward to the championship competition.”
The Trojans are coming off two weeks of training after their last meet, the Coach “O” Invitational, where many records and personal bests were set. The men's team moved to 12th in the in the NCAA South Region and continued to hold their place after a week off.
“The training and focus of the athletes since Coach “O” has been tremendous,” Lancaster said. “We historically perform higher than what we are ranked.”
Nicolo' Bolla set a record in the men's hammer throw placing first with a distance of 63.85 meters. Bolla remains first in the Sun Belt, and also ranks 10th in the NCAA Division I East Outdoor Qualifier List.
Ja-Courtney Alexander set a season best in the 400 meters placing first with a time of 54.35 seconds, moving her to second all-time at Troy and second in the Sun Belt.
Competition begins Friday morning with the decathlon at 9:00 a.m. and the heptathlon at 9:30 a.m. Field events begin at 2:00 p.m. with the women's discus. Friday will conclude with the women's 10,000 meter at 9:30 p.m.
Saturday will begin with the continuation of the decathlon and heptathlon at 9:00 a.m. The field events begin at 12:30 with the women's long jump, and the running events begin at 6:00 p.m. with the men's 110-meter hurdles.
Sunday will begin with field events at 10:00 a.m. with the men's hammer throw finals. Running events begin at 5:00 p.m. with the men's 4x100 meter relay, and end with the women's 4x400 meter relay at 8:00 p.m.
