Troy’s James Brown Selected to Senior Bowl

MOBILE, Ala. – Troy offensive lineman James Brown has officially been invited to participate in the 63rd Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 28 at 3 p.m. The game will be televised live on the NFL Network.
“James was incredibly consistent on the offensive line, not only this season but also throughout his entire career at Troy,” Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale said. “He'll do a great job representing his school here next week and we're looking forward to watching him compete at the highest level.”
Brown was a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection after starting all 12 games at left tackle for the Trojans this past season. He finished the year with an 87 percent grade on 878 snaps. The three-year starter was only penalized twice in 2011 and racked up a team-high 110 knockdown blocks. Brown, a native of Liberty, Miss., made 37 career starts over the last three seasons.
“It's a very big honor. The Senior Bowl showcases some of the top athletes in the nation and I'm just glad to be in that select few,” Brown said. “I'm just hoping to show anything they (scouts) are looking for, anything that can get me put on a team to play football next year.”
“There is no question that James is a deserving player, young man and all-around student-athlete,” Troy head coach Larry Blakeney said earlier this season. “He has been a great guy the entire time he's been here with us and he's done everything the right way.”
The Senior Bowl is the premier place for collegiate seniors to show their talents to scouts from all 32 NFL teams. The players are split into North and South teams, taking part in practices in front of scouts all week. The event culminates with the Senior Bowl game on Saturday.
“It's nice to see that NFL scouts have seen the same things in James and that he is worthy of moving on to the next level. The Senior Bowl has been a great platform for our players and a lot of players around the country,” Blakeney said.
Just last season alone, 83 players that participated in the Senior Bowl were selected in the NFL Draft, including the Trojans' standout receiver Jerrel Jernigan who was picked in the third round by the New York Giants.
