Troy University senior Zach Portemont was named the Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Month on Monday, capping a trio of strong outings during the month of March.
The Andalusia, Ala., native keyed the Trojans' run of contention in three consecutive large tournaments by posting top 10 finishes in all three. He had a 70.55 scoring average for the three events and posted only one over par score.
He finished seventh at USF, helping the Trojans to a seventh place team finish in the 21-team event. He followed up with a tie for fourth at Florida State, helping Troy to a sixth place finish in an 18-team field. He closed the month with a tie for 10th at Furman as Troy finished 13th out of 22 teams.
Portemont and the Trojans will be back in action this weekend at the Georgia Tech Intercollegiate, which is the final tuneup before the Sun Belt Conference championship tournament in Muscle Shoals, Ala., at the end of the month.
