The freshman from Canberra, Australia earned the honor with a 9-1 mark overall in action this week. The only blemish on her record came when she, and teammate Emma Smith, were moved to number one doubles against Kennesaw State. The duo dropped an 8-3 decision, the only loss for Simpson this week.
Simpson won all five of her singles matches, including starting the week off with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kennesaw State's Morgan Carney. She followed up with three consecutive victories against conference foes at number two singles, beginning with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over ULM's Lena Satge in just 42 minutes. Simpson followed that up with a 45 minute match against Arkansas State's Jenny Herring - a match she won 6-0, 6-1. The last match against a conference foe ended in a 6-4, 6-3 victory over UALR's Anne Weijenborg.
Simpson's last match in singles this week ended in a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Jacksonville State's Martina Dessbesell on Wednesday afternoon. With the five consecutive wins, Simpson has improved her singles mark to 8-6 on the season.
In doubles play, the freshman rebounded after the Kennesaw State defeat to win four consecutive matches with her partner.
The duo defeated ULM's Monica Winkel and Claire Clark 9-8, before defeating Arkansas State's Maria Aleman and Ioana Teu 8-6 on Saturday. Those two wins were followed up by a Sunday victory over UALR's Nathalia Garay and Fanny Lopez 8-4; and a Wednesday victory over Jacksonville State's Rafaela Wenzel and Kristen Fuller 8-5.
Simpson and the Trojans return to action this weekend against South Alabama on the road, looking to extend their six-match winning streak.
