Trojans Edge Closer To Game Prep

The Troy Trojans football team resumed fall camp on Monday night at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium.
The Trojans managed to escape Tropical Storm Claudette's rain showers, and finished what Trojans head coach Larry Blakeney called a productive practice.
“It was pretty good day,” Blakeney said. “It's all still push and pull out here though. We came out here and got some things done.”
The Trojans like all other teams have only competed against themselves, and Blakeney said they are eager to get on the field against a different uniform.
“We're still going against each other,” Blakeney said. “They'll all look forward to going against somebody else's schemes.”
The team will get that opportunity next week as camp will soon end and game preparation begins. The Trojans will practice in full pads on Tuesday afternoon, and Thursday night will be a scrimmage under the lights.
Blakeney also added that Thursday night will be a great opportunity for fresh faces to get on the field and grab the spotlight.
"The Younger guys will see a lot of playing time in Thursday's scrimmage."
A couple of big defensive plays led the highlights for Monday night's practice. Courtland Fuller and Jorrick Calvin both snagged interceptions against the first team offense.
“Jorrick made a really pretty grab on his interception,” Blakeney said.
The head coach complimented the play of wide receiver Chip Reeves and the play of the offensive and defensive lines.
“The offensive line is looking good, and we keep getting better and better there,” Blakeney said. “The defensive line is looking good too if everybody can stay in shape and stay well.”
Overall Blakeney is pleased with the route of the team's pre-season progress.
“When one side does well at practice another side doesn't. We're out here getting things done though and working on it everyday.”
Brown Named To Manning Award Watch List:
Trojans quarterback Levi Brown was named to Manning Award Watch List on Monday afternoon. The quarterback said it is an honor to be on the list, and he wants to work hard to keep his name there through the season.
