Trojans To Tangle With Tigers Tonight
4/29/2009 3:30:00 PM | Baseball
The Troy Trojans will return to Riddle-Pace Field tonight to face in-state Rival Auburn.
The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start and will be available on radio on WTBF-FM 94.7 with Barry McKnight and Jerry Miller calling the action.
The game is the first of five this week against two teams ranked in the top 50 in the latest RPI report, according to www.WarrenNolan.com. Auburn enters play this week ranked 36th while Middle Tennessee, the Trojans' weekend foe, comes in ranked 43rd.
Troy is currently ranked 70th in the RPI and posting a solid week of victories over teams ranked in the top would be a big boost to the Trojans' resume as the time nears for NCAA Regional selections. The Trojans are currently 2-4 this season against teams ranked in the top 50.
The Trojans and Tigers will make up their game at Riddle-Pace Field after weather forced postponement of the original date back in March. Season ticket holders will be able to used their tickets dated for March 25.
Troy will send senior left-hander Steven Morelock (0-0, 12.00) to the mound for the game Wednesday night. It will be the Abbeville native's first start since the end of the 2006 season. He missed all of the 2007 and 2008 seasons following shoulder surgery and has been used in just four relief appearances so far this year.
Morelock is one of several Troy pitchers who has battled his way back from arm surgery to pitch for Troy this year. That list includes senior J.J. Whetsel and juniors Andrew Dickinson, Fred Lewis and Wheeler.
Auburn will counter on Wednesday with senior right-hander Paul Burnside (1-3, 6.69).
In addition to the radio broadcast, audio for both games as well as live stats will be available at TroyTrojans.com. Troy fans will also be able to watch web streaming for Wednesday's game through the Trojan Game Pass.
