Playing in Snow Was a New Experience

"Oh the weather outside is frightful, but Trojan Baseball is so delightful, and as long we keep winning, Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it SNOW!!!
Wow! We actually had snow in Troy during baseball season. We got to experience something that most of us have never experienced. We got to play baseball in the snow. That is definitely something we will never forget. After the game was called in the second inning, the whole team got to have a snowball fight and build a snowman (more like a snow mound).
Our team showed its true colors on Friday night last week when we played the Memphis Tigers at home. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and down 7-0, out team showed that we never give up. It started when senior Brett Henry belted his third home run of the season over the right field wall to cut the Tiger lead to 7-3.
Then, two walks later, junior Miles Hoyle came to the plate and, with a 2-2 count, doubled down the left field line, which scored the runners from first and second base. After another walk and a wild pitch, J.R. Myers came to the plate and battled to a 3-2 count. On ball four, the ball got past the catcher and Hoyle broke home, but the ball bounced off the wall right back to the catcher and Hoyle was tagged out.
It just showed that luck was not in our favor that night, but it also showed how strong our team's mental toughness is.
Saturday was a different game in all phases. We pounded the ball all over the park and our pitching was outstanding. Junior Jason Walls got his first win of the season. We scored 19 runs on the day and had an outstanding 25 hits.
Miles Hoyle and Steven Rosado led the Trojan hitters with four hits apiece, and Ryan Ditthardt continued to do what he does best, adding three hits to the Trojan total.
Miles Hoyle did something in the Saturday game that is remarkable and a very uncommon feat to see. He hit for the cycle in the Trojan win. If you aren't sure what that is, it is when a hitter hits a single, double, triple and a home run in the same game. Congratulations Miles!!!
With the cancellation of the game on Sunday (because of SNOW), we prepared for Alabama on Tuesday night. The Crimson Tide started off the season ranked #21, so this was an important game for us. It was a game we NEEDED to win.
The stands were packed as the game began. Senior Travis Burge started the game on the mound for us and delivered a solid performance. With two outs in the first inning the clean up hitter for the Tide hit a two-run homer, which turned out to be the only runs they got the whole game.
We got on the board in the fourth inning when Michael Precise hit a single up the middle, which scored Steven Rosado. Then Ryan Ditthardt hit a BIG home run to put us up 3-2.
Then, in the bottom of the fifth inning, Michael Precise delivered the knockout blow with a bases loaded double off the wall in right, which scored all three Trojan runners and put us up 6-2.
That is where the game ended, 6-2. If you didn't know, that was the first time the Crimson Tide has come to Troy in 10 years. It was a great win for us and a fun game to be a part of.
The next day was a need to win a game as well. We played Samford, which is always a difficult team for us to beat for one reason or another. But, we squeezed by the Bulldogs in a 6-5 victory.
After a tough weekend at FIU, we play at North Florida this week before returning home next weekend. As always, we ask for your continued support and attendance.
We are one day closer to Omaha!!!!!!!
