Cichoszewska Wins Gold at Georgia Relays

ATHENS, Ga. - Senior Agata Cichoszewska returned to action after taking last weekend to rest from a grueling indoor schedule, and she promptly met the regional qualifying standards in the triple jump in her first action of the outdoor season at the Georgia Relays on Friday afternoon.
Cichoszewska jumped a mark of 12.64 meters to open the competition in the tiple jump, before improving to 12.66 meters on her fourth jump. In her fifth and final jump, the senior jumped a distance of 12.76 meters (41'10.50"). Not only did she meet the qualifying mark, but she also won the competition by besting second-place Tiffany Trotman of Georgia by 0.65 meters.
In other action by the Trojans on the first day of competition at the Georgia Relays, the 1600-meter Sprint Medlay team on the women's side came in fourth with a time of 4:16.87, just missing a medal by one second. They finished just behind the relay team from Marquette for the medal.
Sophomore Chontia Allen finished 12th overall in the shot put with a distance of 7.91 meters (25'11.50"), while junior Tiphanie Baker brought home her first bronze medal of the outdoor season by finishing third in the hammer. She recorded a distance of 52.89 meters (173'6"0, to finish behind Jessica Ehlen of Marquette 52.98 meters (173'10") and Martina Harasnova of Adidas-Slovakia at 68.93 meters (226'2"). Monique Jordan finished 10th in the same competition, recording a distance of 45.01 meters (147'8"), while Stephanie Yawn finished 15th at 37.03 meters (121'6").
On the men's side, the 1600-meter Sprint Medley team finished fourth overall with a time of 3:29.50; finishing just behind the team from Marquette at 3:29.06 and Georgia at 3:24.25.
Lamontrey Stamper won a silver medal in the triple jump competition for the Trojans with a distance of 14.52 meters (47'7.75"), the highest finish of a collegiate athlete in the meet. The winner of the event was unattached athleet Aaron LaGarde at 15.39 meters (50'6"), while the next best collegiate athlete was third-place Phillip Adams of Georgia at 14.27 meters (46'10").
Senior Mike Conley finished 13th in the shot put with a distance of 10.99 meters (36'0.75"), while teammate Grant Bullington finished 14th with a throw of 8.95 meters (29'4.50").
In the final event featuring Troy athletes, Ryan Schmeling finished 13th in the hammer with a distance of 43.41 meters (142'5").
