TROY, Ala. - The Troy University soccer team closes out Sun Belt Conference regular season action hosting South Alabama on Friday afternoon.
A win from the Trojans (8-9-1, 4-6 Sun
Belt) secures a spot in the conference tournament for just the second time in school history and the first time since a 2005 opening round loss to Middle Tennessee.
Troy enters Friday's match trailing the all-time series with the Lady Jags 3-1-1, but the Trojans are 1-1 all-time against South Alabama at home.
Back in 2007, the Trojans defeated USA (3-14-1, 1-8-1), 2-1, before battling to a 0-0 tie last season in the final week of SBC regular season play.
The Trojans enter the match after winning consecutive Sun Belt Conference matches for the first time this season. The Trojans defeated Louisiana-Lafayette, 4-1, Friday afternoon, and shut out Louisiana-Monroe, 4-0, on Sunday. Troy is 3-2-0 in SBC home matches this year.
Troy is led by midfielder/forward Bridget Duke, who leads the team in points (17) and shots (44). Duke is tied for the team lead in goals with six, and ranks second on the team in assists with five.
She is tied with forward Mary Morris for the team lead in game-winning goals with two. Morris is also tied with Duke for the team lead in goals, and ranks second in points (13) for the Trojans.
Troy will honor the senior class before kickoff on Friday. Game time is set for 3 pm. Admission to all Troy soccer games is free.
