On The Links
September 11
It looks like we are going to finally get started with the season this week. We leave Sunday for the South Alabama Jag Collegiate at Azalea City Golf Course in Mobile. The team looks as ready as I've seen in four years to start the season off the way we should...with a win!!
Coach Matt Terry and Coach John Owens have set up a strict, structured practice routine that we do every practice and I think the work is paying off. You can just tell when we practice that more putts are going in and our short games are all much better.
Shauna McVeigh has been working extremely hard to make sure we are not only in top physical shape but also mentally healthy. She not only gets us two days a week in the weight room but has also set up a TPI workout for each person on the team.
Speaking for myself, I think the workouts are very beneficial and it shows in every ones' improvement so far this season.
Wes Parker, Michael McGrady, Jake Brodhead, Reid Merritt, Rourke Van Der Spuy and I will be making the trip to Mobile in a take six, count four tournament. We are very excited and anxious to get there.
We normally only see USA at our conference tournament but now they will get a chance to see the TROJANS early and often!!!
Wes has continued to show how confident he is on the greens while McGrady is picking up the amazing form he had all year last year. Reid is showing much more confidence in himself and the competitor in him is out now more than ever while Jake is maintaining that great attitude that we all must have in order to achieve the success we are looking for this year.
Rourke is the real surprise to me though. We all knew he was a great player when he got here but there's a huge difference in looking at scores on paper and actually watching someone play.
It's weird though, I've been with some of these guys for more than three years now and I am just now realizing how great they are. There's also such a different attitude this year...don't ask me why.
I think with having five seniors on the team we all know that it's slowly coming to an end...but I guess the legacy of this Trojan Golf Team has to start somewhere and we want it to be with us!!!!
GO TROJANS!!
