4:30 pm
It is the end of another day in the equipment room at
We reported to work bright and early at 7:30 this morning and quickly began working on some last minute things for picture day. We had to help players get correct sizes for their game pants, get a few game helmets ready to be used in the photos, and get some game jerseys handed out to the walk-ons, who didn't get them yesterday.
We also had to do several last-minute tasks, such as give the coaches new shoes to be worn in the shoot, help move tables for the cookout held later tonight, and swap out polo shirts for coaches and staff that weren't given the correct size.
The managers went onto the game field for our group photo at around 8:30. Trust me, there are not many things in life that are as boring as standing perfectly still while having the sun shine straight in your eyes.
After everybody else was done with their individual and group photos, we then headed to the stands for the team photo. In my seven years of being an equipment manager in high school and college, I have found that there are very few things that are as boring as the team photos.
My wisdom tooth surgery two years ago was more interesting any team photo that I have been in (with the exception of the 2006 New
After the photos, we began washing the game uniforms used in the photos. This is always one of the easier washes that we have all year since we don't have to deal with stains. And that was only the beginning of the day.
After lunch, we began preparing for the start of practice tomorrow. All of the managers were working outside moving practice equipment, inside washing workout laundry, getting practice balls prepared, and numerous other tasks. This is one of the busiest times of the year for us. We worked for two and a half hours on these tasks before calling it a day around 2:30 pm.
Tomorrow is the start of fall practice. It will, no doubt, be a very busy day for us, so I hope to be able to make a sensible and coherent post at time. But, a man can only do so much when he's tired.
Until tomorrow,
Jeff
