4/3/2008 5:00:00 AM | Track & Field
TROY, Ala. - The Troy University men's and women's track & field teams will travel to the Tiger Track Classic hosted by Auburn University this weekend, beginning with the hammer throw Friday afternoon. It will mark the first outdoor meet this season in which the Trojans will field their entire team throughout the meet.
Competition begins on Friday with the hammer throw at 4:30 pm, for both the men and women, and all day Saturday.
Troy will attempt to add to their five regional qualifying marks that were set by four different individuals in the last two outdoor meets at Florida State University. Senior Tawanna Meadows has qualified in the 100-meters and 200-meters (setting school records in both events), while sophomore Tiphanie Baker has qualified in the discus (setting a new school record) on the women's side. On the men's side, Lamar Hicks has qualified in the 100-meters, while Leander McKenzie has qualified in the 110-meter hurdles (setting a new school record).
Agata Cichoszewska and Norman Austin narrowly missed qualifying for the regionals in the triple jump and javelin, respectively. Troy's O'Darien Bassett will make his 2008 debut this weekend in the long jump. Bassett, the number one ranked jumper in the nation last season until an injury ended his season prematurely, will attempt to rebound from his ninth place finish at the regionals last season.
