Trojans Fall To Southern Miss 7-4

The Trojans fell behind in the second inning when USM senior
second baseman followed a walk and a single with a three-run homer off
The Trojans got on the board in the third thanks to three singles and USM error, but left the tying runs on base.
Southern Miss answered in the home half of the inning when Drew Carson hit a line drive over the wall in left-center with a runner on to increase the Eagles' lead to 6-2.
Troy threatened in the fourth, loading the bases off starter Josh Billeaud (2-1) with one out and the top of the order due, but Bart Pettus flied out to short center and Bryan Miller flew out to deep right to end the threat.
After passing through the middle innings without any runs, the Trojans cut the Southern Miss lead to 6-4 in the seventh inning and chased pitcher Josh Billeaud in the process. Bryan Miller opened the inning with a single, advanced all the way to third on an errant pickoff throw and scored on a wild pitch.
A double by Michael Precise chased Billeaud, Daryl Otwell delivered an RBI single off reliever Wade Weathers.
Southern Miss added an insurance run in the eighth off
The Golden Eagles turned things over to their closer, Tyler
Conn, who retired
Billeaud went six innings, allowing four runs, three earned,
on 11 hits while striking out three. Powers was the most impressive of three
Bryan Miller and Precise led
The Trojans and Golden Eagles will conclude their two-game series on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
