Trojan Stampede Moving Along
10/17/2008 5:00:00 AM | Rodeo
The Trojan Stampede is charging along after the performance for the long go was wrapped up Thursday night.
It was a red clay pit and bleachers filled with fans until P.A. Jerry Todd rustled up the arena, then it was bucking broncos, lassos, small cows and big bulls as the riders tore out of the gates with their eyes set on the short go.
The night was a great start for Troy's only host event this season as everything ran smoothly and the fans were able to get what they came for.
"It was a great time for the spectators and our team really held up against the competition," coach Josh Simmons said.
The Trojans had a good start to the rodeo with some of the team members placing in their respected events and dominating the calf roping to this point as Mark Gentry currently sits in first with a time of 11.3 and teammate Garrett Moore right behind him in second with a time of 12.4 seconds.
"I haven't had much luck yet this year so it felt pretty good to start out on top in your home event and fans," said Gentry.
Other notable finishes for the Trojans include Haley Hudman, who is sitting in third place in Barrel Racing with a time of 18.20 seconds, and Team Roping duo Clinton Ingram and Will Bradley who also currently sit in third place with a time of 16.1 seconds.
"Hopefully we'll carry the momentum built up from tonight into tomorrow and on into the short go," Simmons said.
The slack began tonight after the performance and will continue Friday morning at 8 o'clock a.m. which will go until all competitors have gone and the top ten from each event has been determined for the short go, which will take place at 7 o'clock p.m. Friday night.
