SAAC Holds Second Meeting
10/16/2008 5:00:00 AM | General
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee held its second meeting on Wednesday October 15th.
The committee is composed of members from every Trojan team, and meets monthly to discuss issues that a student-athlete must face.
This month's meeting was opened by President Ryan Schmeling by introducing Dr. John Anderson. "Doc" Anderson is the Coordinator for the Pike County Food Drive. Mr. Anderson highlighted how much of a problem poverty is in Pike County and challenged the committee to build on its past success. Last year, the athletic department donated nearly 4,000 pounds of canned goods to the least fortunate of Pike County. The committee also voted on many rule changes that have been proposed to the NCAA. These changes were presented to the SAAC by Justin Kume and Kit Alewine of Troy's Compliance Office. The rules covered various different categories such as awards and benefits, eligibility, recruiting, and financial aid.
The meeting concluded with an update from the currently ongoing "Trojans for Baby Bella" fundraiser. Currently $600 has been raised, but student-athletes will be looking to significantly raise that number this weekend. Bracelets will be sold at the volleyball match Friday night and the football game Saturday night.
