Newcomers Excel in Early Rodeos

MAGNOLIA, Ark.- Freshmen keep stepping up for Troy Rodeo as another first year team member won an event at the Southern Arkansas University rodeo.
Nisha Middleton won the barrel racing competition with a total time of 33.20 seconds, recording her first points of the year.
Middleton won the first round of the competition with a time of 16.53 seconds, and came back to win the final round with a time of 16.67.
“College rodeo is different from any other type of rodeo,” Cave said. “Mom and dad may call to check up, but at the end of the day the kids have to do what it takes to seal the deal in the arena.”
Sophomore Mark Gentry and his partner from
Sophomore Mary Owens qualified for her second consecutive championship round this year, gaining points in the breakaway roping with her total time of 8.6 seconds.
Freshmen Laci Rucker and Tabitha Kiker also qualified for the short round in the breakaway roping for the second time this year.
Others gaining points for Troy were Ben Mayworth, Will Bradley, Clint Keller, Ty Ethridge, Chris Graham and Kindal Jumper.
