Trojans Drop First Conference Match of Season

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Troy University volleyball team lost its first Sun Belt conference match of the season to Western Kentucky on Friday by scores of 30-19, 30-21, and 30-19.
Troy (6-11, 0-1 SBC) could not gain any momentum in the match as Western Kentucky (12-7, 1-0 SBC) led from the beginning.
Troy saw three Trojans hit negative for the match and as a team posted a hitting percentage of .065. Troy posted a negative hitting percentage in games one and three. If not for game two's .312 hitting percentage Troy would have hit in the negative for the match.
As a team Troy only recorded 22 kills compared to Western Kentucky's 55.
Sophomore Aubre Smith led the Trojans in kills with seven and notched two blocks.
Freshman Meghan Gilroy posted the best hitting percentage for the Trojans as she went five-for-nine for a .444 percentage.
Western Kentucky's Megan Argabright and Aquila Orr recorded 30 kills between them to lead the Hilltoppers in the win.
In game one, Troy and Western Kentucky traded points to keep the game close until the Hilltoppers began to pull away, 11-6.
Troy had to battle from the beginning in game two down, 7-3 but continued to fight and kept the game close, 10-8. Western Kentucky continued to pull away and proved too much for the Trojans, 25-17.
The Trojans started game three in the hole just as it had in the previous game. At one point down, 14-9 the Trojans continued to fight and closed the gap, 21-16.
