Troy Defeat Hornets to Begin Week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Troy University volleyball team dominated on Tuesday night against Alabama State as it took the match in three games by scores of 30-9, 30-14 and 30-27.
Sophomore Jennifer White led the Trojans (6-10) with her 14 kills against the Lady Hornets (0-9). White had no errors in 20 attacks for a hitting percentage of .700. White also had two service aces and two digs in the match.
Also guiding the Trojans was freshman Liz Leeds who notched eight kills for an attack percentage of .727.
Four Trojans hit over .600 in the match with the Lady Hornets for a team hitting percentage of .483.
Alabama State could not gain any momentum in the match until the third game when it tried to catch the Trojans but was unsuccessful. For the match the Lady Hornets recorded a hitting percentage of .062 and only had 25 kills.
In game one, the Trojans jumped out to an early six-point lead and then extended it to 14, 18-4.
Alabama State tried to keep the score close in game two but could not hold the Trojans back as Troy took a four-point lead and never looked back, 9-5.
Troy took a small lead in game three but the Lady Hornets caught back up to make it a two-point game, 18-16 and continued to trade points with the Trojans until Troy pulled out for the win.
The Trojans will open conference play on Friday, Sept. 22 when it travels to Bowling Green, Ky., to play Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. Live stats will be available on the Western Kentucky website and a link will be available on www.troytrojans.com.
Troy will then travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., on Saturday, Sept. 23 to wrap-up the weekend when it plays Middle Tennessee at 7 p.m.
