TROY, Ala. -- After two weeks of preseason practice, Troy's cross country teams begin their 2006 season Friday with short trip to the Columbus State Invitational in Smith Station, Ala. The Trojans and Auburn make up the Division I portion of the meet.
For Head Coach Bob Lambert, the 2006 campaign features a lot of excitement -- if not for this year, then for the future.
The men's team features one of the top runners in Troy's Division I history in Brandon Hughes. The senior earned All-Sun Belt Conference honors last season after a third-place finish at the conference meet and with a solid season could earn a spot in the NCAA Championship.
The rest of the team consists of sophomores and freshmen, including Jeremy Moujoodi, the top high school distance runner in the state last year.
The women's team will be led by transfer Martyna Pietryka, one of the top 800-meter runners in her native Poland. They two are young, dominated by sophomores and freshmen. Jennifer Graham and Jenean Corcoran will be counted on heavily during the league meet.
