Trojans Impress in Fall Debut

The Trojans also scrimmaged Wallace Community College of Dothan on Thursday.
In the first game against Jefferson State, the Trojans were victorious by a score of 7-1. Troy was lead by Michele Grinage who recorded 10 strikeouts while allowing only one run.
In the final game of the day, Troy defeated Chipola by a score of 4-2 behind freshman Alyshia Rocky” Paige who hit two home runs to straight-away centerfield.
Brooke Powell also hit a homerun, her first of the fall, against Chipola.
Several players, both veterans and newcomers, impressed the coaching staff over the course of the two contests.
Sophomore catcher Felicia Hammer had a tremendous all-around game” in the words of Head Coach Melanie Davis.
[Hammer] provided intense, sound leadership and was rock solid behind the plate. She was blocking balls and base runners off the plate,” Davis said.
It was great to see her perform as the elite catcher we know she is.”
Davis was also pleased with her team's aggressive base-running on Saturday.
Sophomore Heidi Johnson, seniors Angie Coteat and Stacey Dwyer each recorded multiple stolen bases.
Freshman Kayla Moore was medically cleared midway through the 1st game and recorded five steals on the day.
Freshman left fielder Katy Kolb played a full soccer game on Friday, but still managed to be a contributor and perform aggressively on the bases.
Senior Amanda Ragans and Johnson both contributed on offense, rapping out a double apiece.
Davis was also impressed with her team's defense.
Our defense was solid throughout the two days. Dwyer recorded two assists from right field, including a key putout at home,” Davis said.
Overall, Davis was pleased with the outcome of the two games.
It was a great opportunity for our girls to come together in a competitive situation and we saw excellent improvement in all aspects of the game,” she said.
We're able to now key on a few things in the remaining few weeks of fall practice.”
The Trojans will be in action for their final fall games of the year on Friday, October 13, at 2:30 and 5 pm against Central Alabama Community College and Alabama Southern Community College.
