Mean Green Topples Trojans

TROY, Ala. - The Troy University volleyball team fell to North Texas on Friday by scores of 30-27, 30-28 and 30-13.
As a team, Troy (8-19, 2-9 SBC) notched 33 kills for a hitting percentage of .037 but only had 10 less than North Texas (16-10, 7-3 SBC) who recorded 44 for an attack percentage of .355.
Troy has now lost five of its last six matches with its last win coming on Oct. 5 over Louisiana-Monroe.
Sophomore Aubre Smith was the only Trojan to notch double digit kills as she had 14 with only four errors for an attack percentage of .385. Smith also had three blocks in the match with North Texas.
Katy Prokof led the Mean Green with 10 kills for a hitting percentage of .280. Brooke Engel added assistance to North Texas with her nine kills for an attack percentage of .750.
After the two teams traded points, North Texas took the lead, 13-10 but Troy tied the score again at 15. Then with the score tied at 25, North Texas took the lead by two, 27-25 and Troy only scored two more points as the Mean Green took the game.
In game two, North Texas led 10-7; Troy fought back but could never get closer than four points as North Texas pulled ahead, 26-16.
Troy never led in game three and fell behind early, 11-4. Troy scored a few points but could never gain the momentum to catch the Mean Green, 25-11.
Troy will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 22 when it faces Denver at 12 p.m. in Denver, Colo.
