The team is completely healthy with the exception of Michael (Acree) and the competition at this meet will be the toughest we've seen this season with Michigan, Auburn, Florida A&M, UCF and Florida State all competing,” Director of track Bob Lambert said.
Freshman Tawanna Meadows will head up the women's team after a strong performance at the UNO Invitational last Saturday. Meadows won both the 100 and 200m events.
Tawanna's family will be there this weekend watching and she is familiar with the track so we have great expectations for her at this meet,” Lambert said.
The women's distance squad will compete in its specialty events at Florida State. Senior Belinda Bargmann will compete in the 1,500 and 5,000m runs while teammate senior Lindsey Waldrop will compete in the 3,000m run.
On the men's side, junior Don Pitter will concentrate more on the relay events this weekend after winning both the 100 and 200m dashes at the UNO Invitational.
Senior Pawel Grubecki will join the team this weekend in the pole vault after sitting out the first two meets due to a foot injury.
Pawel broke the school record last year when he qualified for the NCAA Regionals and now that he is healthy could top 16'6” this weekend,” Lambert said.
Competition begins with throwing events on Thursday at 9 a.m. and will continue through Saturday at the Mike Long Track Complex.
