TROY -- Newcomers Cedric Jackson and Todd Martin tallied 22 and 18 points, respectively, to lead seven players in double figures as Troy posted a 117-83 exhibition victory over Piedmont Saturday afternoon at Trojan Arena.
The Trojans connected on 53.0 percent from the field, including 42.6 percent from three-point range. They hit 20 of their 47 attempts during the contest, including 15 in an opening half that featured 69 points.
It didn't take long for Jackson to prove his worth after transferring from Spartanburg Methodist College. He scored the game's first 10 points -- and the Trojans' first 12 -- as Troy bolted to a 34-6 lead in the first eight minutes.
Martin added 13 points in the opening period, while Boo Ramsey chipped in nine points.
Piedmont tried to stay close as David Adcock scored 23 of his game-high 26 points in the opening period. But a 41.0 percent shooting effort and 11 turnovers prevented them from being any closer than 69-42 at the half.
In the second stanza, the scoring was much more balanced. Jacob Hazouri tallied 10 of his 12 points after intermission, while Jarvis Acker scored nine of his 11 points in the second.
Dixon finished the contest with a double-double of 12 points and 12 assists, while Daryl Davis added 11 points and 6 rebounds. Sammy Sharp chipped in 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds.
The regular season opens on Friday when the Trojans travel to New York City to compete in the Columbia Classic. Troy will face Quinnipiac at 5 p.m. EST with New Hampshire and Columbia rounding out the field.
