Trojans Ink Five During Early Signing Period

The group includes three high school players and two junior college standouts. Below is information on each player.
Beau Brooks - Catcher - Huntsville, Ala.
Brooks is a product of the very successful program at Huntsville High School and will join two other former Panthers on the Trojans roster. He is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound catcher who is also a left-handed hitter. Baseball America lists him as the 11th best prospect in the state. He was a second team All-City pick in 2004 and he also played in the AHSAA All-Star game. He also participated in the East Coast Professional Showcase in Wilmington, NC, which hosts the top 100 professional prospects in that state.
Bart Pettus - Infielder - Demopolis, Ala.
Pettus is another left-handed hitter who is primarily a middle infielder. He is 6-foot-3 and 175-pounds and was a first team All-State performer at Demopolis High in 2004. He was ranked as a top 10 prospect by the Tuscaloosa News and among the top 100 players in the state by the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association. As a junior he hit .423 with 15 doubles, three triples and four home runs while driving in 46 runs. He also posted a 9-3 record on the mound with a 2.47 ERA. He helped his prep team reach the state finals in 2004.
Josh Sowell - Infielder - Headland, Ala.
Sowell is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound middle infielder who hits and throws from the right side. He was MVP of the 2003 American Legion World Series team for Dothan Post 12 (15 years old).
Josh Dew - First Baseman/Pitcher - Montgomery, Ala.
Dew signed with Troy out of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College where he was a standout as a freshman last spring. He hit .304 for the Saints as a freshman with nine doubles, 10 home runs and 31 RBI. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound right-hander played at Jeff Davis High in Montgomery where he was a first team All-State pick and was the 2003 Metro Player of the Year.
Jonathan Sabat - Pitcher - Attalla, Ala.
Sabat signed with Troy out of Wallace-Hanceville Community College where the left-hander posted a 3-2 record with a 1.89 ERA and one save as a freshman. The 6-foot, 180-pounder played at Etowah High School.
The 2005 Trojans baseball team will open the season on February 11 with the first game of a three-game series at McNeese State in Lake Charles, La. The team will open its home schedule with a three-game set against Samford beginning February 18.
