Troy (3-7-4, 1-2-3 A-Sun) scored first, on a header by junior Emily Cobb off a corner kick from Karlie Bierie in the 17th minute.
The Trojans' lead was short-lived, however. Jacksonville (3-7-2, 2-2-1) scored just 54 seconds later, after Troy was whistled for a foul inside the box, giving a penalty kick to Jess Newport. Newport put the shot over Troy goalkeeper Laura Longard to tie the match at 1-1.
Bierie notched her second assist of the day when she connected with sophomore Cathy Truszkowski on a breakaway for the goal in the 38th minute. Troy took a 2-1 advantage into the half.
The Dolphins tied the game early in the second half, when Daniela Davila scored off a deflection on a JU corner kick in the 48th minute.
Longard recorded three second-half saves to salvage the tie and push the game into overtime. Longard finished with 10 total saves, including four in the overtime periods.
The Dolphins out shot the Trojans 25-8, managing 12 shots on goal. The Trojans put six of their eight shots on goal.
It was a good game,” said Troy head coach Diana Niland. We played well, but we need to start getting wins if we're going to figure into the conference picture.”
The Trojans are no strangers to overtime, as five of their 13 matches have gone into extra time. Four of those matches went into double overtime and ended in ties.
Troy will play its final home match of the season on Thursday when it hosts Lipscomb at 4 p.m. The match will be Senior Day for Troy, and the team will honor seniors Tara Petrucci and Erin Doud, who will be playing in their final home match as Trojans. The team will also be hosting Youth Day on Thursday. Kids ages 4-13 are encouraged to attend the match then stay for a short clinic with the Trojans following the game.
